Dr. M.G.R. University College was established in 1988, and Thai Moogambigai Dental College was established in 1991, both within three years of their inception. The Tmt.Kannammal Educational Trust was established in 1985 with the goal of bringing about change and progress through education, and it established Thai Moogambigai Polytechnic College. Both colleges were designated as Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institutes by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi, and the Union Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Government of India, New Delhi in 2003.
